New website has been built!

Since the last update, I have been lacking on updating this journal in means of content.  This is not because I've been slacking for a long, long time, but because I've been finalising my awesome new site in which this journal also plays a part.

The new site is better than ever before.  There are many new articles.  Pages of content now about New Super Mario Bros, even a walkthrough.  And there are all new community features such as the forum.

Of course, I've still maintained the Super Mario 64 DS content, and still run the Glitch Hunters Times newsletter.  But I've added all new sections about older videogames, and hope this time the site is popular, and stays that way.

The new site address is:

http://dsultimate.sitesled.com

There is also a forum at:

http://s10.invisionfree.com/DS_Ultimate/index.php?act=idx

And of course my traditional mailing list which is right here (form wise):

Triple Items essay

The Importance of Triple Items

The Ultimate Guide

Now, the triple items are some of the most useful items in the game, yet no one ever writes about them. Why? probably just because of their non-existence on wifi. Well I am going to change all that right now, with the ultimate guide to the triple item! This guide will tell you where to lay and use bananas, how to use triple shells as a shield, defensive positions and where to cut huge corners with mushrooms. It will even say if the tricks work in 100cc. Ready for the best item related essay yet?

Triple bananas

Bananas are often misleadingly known as some of the worst items in Mario Kart games since the start, and this is a bad misconception. Because with practise, any item (except the blooper) can be a brilliant part of a professional players strategy. Here are how to use bananas.

At the end of ramps- This is often seen as a bad idea when it is in fact the place in the game to use them. Why? Because work this out:

1-2 second spin out will cause them to miss the jump and fall to their doom. But what's crueler, is that the 3 second or so time when they are immobilised out of the race, their rivals could be zooming way ahead of them. In fact, on courses like Yoshi falls, this is totally lethal, as it is nigh on impossible to catch up to a good player if you fall off.

At the landing spot

Use them where they land from the jump and they will automatically hit it, not being able to controll the kart much in mid-air, and spin out of control.

To cancel out items

One of the most useful things about bananas and fake item boxes, is that with a well-timed hit, you can avoid the effects of a blue shell or bob-omb. This is tactical, and to succeed, you must hit the item just as the blue shell is about to strike.

Special Triple Banana strategies

1- Make a line

Making a line to block a narrow path can be so funny if you get that chance. This makes the alleyways in Delfino Square especially lethal.

2- Blockade

Go in front of an opponent repeatedly. They will be drafting almost automatically, then blam! They hit a banana that's dangling from the back of the kart and spin out while you merrily snake off into the distance, leaving them in a cloud of exhaust smoke!

3- Across an item box line

Lay them across a line of item boxes and no computers or human rivals will be able to pass that line, causing mass chaos and letting you race into the distance.

Triple Shells

Unlike the banana, there are two different types of triple shells in Mario Kart DS.

Green Shells

he two uses are holding them as a shield, and ramming your opponent with that shield, or firing them and hoping to hit. The second option is good for professional players, but I really recommend using them as a shield and ramming others off the edge. In Battle, stand on an item box and watch the sparks fly!

Or stand at the entrance to a pipe to screw up your opponents badly!

Red Shells

Use them as normal, with one exception. Fire one, then wait until the effect wears off before firing a second shell. This way, the effect won't be cancelled. Do not use them if:

Opponent is under rolling log in Bowser Castle

In Alleyway in Delfino Square

Far off the course

Behind coffin in Banshee Boardwalk

Behind a ramp

Right next to you

This way, the item will actually hit, and not miss/be destroyed by wall or item.

Mushrooms

The final item requires good use. Here are some good places to use them:

1- Cut through second waterfall in Yoshi falls, after hopping the first bit.

2- Cut through water in Cheep Cheep Beach

3- Cut across grass in Luigi's Mansion

5- Cut behind the Pyramid or bounce off the hills at the end at Desert Hills.

6- Use through Alleyway shortcut in Delfino Square.

7- Cut across bank to get secret item box in DK Pass.

8- Cut across sandy area in Mario Circuit to save time.

9- Cut across mud next to ramps in Wario Stadium

10- cut across first flowerbed in Peach Gardens

11- Use for either first, second or third glitch shortcut in Rainbow Road.

12- Cut across sand in Mario Circuit 1

13- Cut the snowbanks at the start (second one for sure) in Frappe Snowland.

14- Cut through hole in fence in Donut Plains 1.

15- Cut through hole in fence in Choco Island 2.

16- On Sky Garden you can either use it on a ramp shortcut, use on cloud at end, jump to other side of track to the left of booster ramp and normal ramp, jump to vine bridge, jump at vine bridge and get Lakitu to put you there or cut a corner to save a whole load of time.

17- Use to cut areas with piranha plants in Yoshi Circuit. You can mini-turbo first shortcut effectively.

Well, this guide may help you with learning how to use triple items, so I hope you improve your times in Time Trial and own people online so badly!

New Super Mario Bros

New Super Mario Bros Glitches
Okay, I would like to say I have just bought New Super Mario Bros a few days ago, and apart from already completing the game, found about 7 new glitches in the game, including an awesome time freezing glitch!
The Awesome Time Freezing Glitch

First, pick the level which is the World 2 Tower or the World 3 Tower. Now go up the level to the Bowser Jr boss room, and enter as Fire Mario. Note there is either water or quicksand beneath the platform.

Now jump off the edge. keep jumping, and fire fireballs at Bowser Jr while jumping and do not step on the platform. Now, when he dies, the timer will stop, like normal. But you can keep moving around and throwing fireballs, as you aren't on the platform to trigger his escape sequence! In this mode, the touch screen and pause menu also do not work.

Swim or jump under the arena wall

Do the above, but sink down until you are near the bottom. Swim to the left or right wall, and you can actually swim under it!

Swim under the Fortress

In world 3, go to the Castle. Now in any patch of water, sink down a certain way. When a certain distance down (near the bottom), swim at the platform. you can keep swimming and go right under the platforms, avoiding the Whomps and everything else. You can also go under the floor in certain places, in inacessible pools of water!

Dancing Dry Bones

Go to World 5 Tower (I think). Ride the platform up, and quite near the top, starting attacking the Dry Bones. You want it to be underneath where a block is when the platform reaches the top. If done correctly, the Dry Bones will get stuck and move back and forwards mega quick, like he's dancing!

Trick found by various people on Gamefaqs (not me)

To activate Challenge Mode, pause the game outside a level and press LRLR XXYY. A message wil appear, and now, when in a level, you cannot backtrack, like in the old Super Mario Bros game! This is vital for some glitches. To deactivate it, reactivate the combo of buttons.

Get stuck badly

In the second world's castle, there is a star coin in a small alcove. Go up the platform to there, avoiding the spiky ball and keep going to the left while challenge mode is active. You can't back track with this mode, so you get stuck there with no choice but to exit the level, or if it's your first time, wait until the time limit runs out and Mario dies!

Spastic Mario

As a shell, go onto a tight rope in the first Bowser level. Hold the button to dash, and start spinning. Go to the edge of the rope and keep holding it. Mario will act really weird and white smoke will appear!

New Super Mario Bros Important Tips
Play as Luigi
To play as Luigi, hold L and R while selecting a file from the main menu.
Go to world 4
To access world 4, beat the world 2 boss as mini-Mario.
Go to World 7
To access world 7, beat the world 5 boss as mini-Mario
New Backgrounds
To get new backgrounds, beat the game once and you can buy them from a new toad house in world 1 for 20 star coins each.
Secret Backgrounds
To get a secret background, beat the game and collect all the star coins in the game.
Infinite Toad House items
Complete all levels to get this.
1 star next to file name
Bea the game once
2 stars next to file name
Complete all levels
3 stars next to name
Beat all levels, collect all star coins and spend all star coins. Levels in this case include cannons, pipes and Toad houses.
Easy way to win first two Bowser battles
Just run into Bowser or skeleton Bowser while powered up, and you can keep running right through him with the invincibility generated after being hit. Then , just hit the switch!
Boss Guide
Here are the New Super Mario Bros Boss strategies:

Boss Guide

Bowser Junior Battle Style 1-

Jump on his head as he runs at you, then avoid him while in his shell. Now repeat twice.

Style 2- Avoid his charge attack, and deflect the shell he throws to attack. Now jump on him. Repeat twice.

Bowser- Either-

  • 1: Go on the platforms, jump above his head and land on the switch

  • 2: Go through him while powered up and hit the switch.

  • 3: Go underneath him when he jumps

  • 4: Fire fireballs at him until he's defeated.

Mummy Pokey- Jump on his head when he is low, and when he is really tall, just avoid him. Jump on his head three times to win. Or, while mini Mario, ground pound his head three times and you go to world 4 instead of world 3.

Cheepskipper- Jump on him three times when he exits the water or fire many fireballs at him to fry this fish!

Giant Goomba- Jump on his head three times or fire fireballs at him from the far right or left of the screen, where he can't attack.

Petey Piranha- When he dives, avoid him. He'll fall over. Now ground pound him. Repeat twice.

Monty Mole- Jump on his head when he is about to throw a bob-omb. Avoid the bullet bills. Repeat twice.

Lakithunder- When he dives, jump on his head and repeat twice. Avoid the lightning and spinies he throws at you.

Skeleton Bowser- Jump over him, or go throughh him while powered up. Fireballs can't hurt him.

Bowser and Bowser Jr- Avoid Bowser Jrs first attack, and fire the shell he throws back. Pound him twice. Now run under/jump over Bowser and hit the switch.

Universal Techniques:

If you use a blue shell and rush around at high speed, you can attack the boss just by hitting it. Hit it three times to win the battle rather easily.

Most bosses and Bowser Jr die very easily if you keep hitting them with fireballs.

Use a mega mushroom and jump on a boss to beat it. This is so neat when against Monty mole, and the tank just collapses!

Just run into Bowser jr with the mega mushroom to defeat him.

Legalise the Rainbow Road shortcut!

Prolonged Rocket Boosting, Should it be Legalised?

The Final Conclusion

The first thing to say is that I generally support prolonged rocket boosting, and that I think it should be allowed, or at least in many places in the game.  The second thing is that I have some probably important information to give those who don't know about PRB.  Below are some facts about PRB before I begin the actual argument:

PRB Facts and Information
Prolonged rocket boosting is a trick that allows you to cut across off-road surfaces without slowing down.

You do this by constantly mini-turboing after either a boost start, or a zipper in the track.

The best karts for this are the Egg1 and Dry Bomber.

This technique has fans and opponents and is used on Japanese record sites.

Okay, so there are the facts and information you need to know about this technique, so what are the two sides of the coin?  Well there are those who support the trick and want it legalised on all time Trials and world records and those who think it's a glitch and want it banned.  Of course there is a third viewpoint I must consider afterwards.

The Supporters of PRB

The supporters of Prolonged rocket boosting say that it is a natural technique, and that it can be just as valid as 'snaking'.  I quite agree and see the sense in their logic at this level, as the trick is virtually just repeated mini-turbos to maintain speed, much like you would do if you were playing naturally.  So on this point, I would consider the first argument on the PRB supporters side, as there isn't much to disagree with.

However, their second argument may actually have a good counter argument, and I shall explain what I mean.  Many Prolonged rocket boosting supporters say that if PRB is banned, why isn't the shortcut on Sky Garden banned, or the trick in Bowser Castle where you jump into the lava to reach the finish line earlier, as they are both glitches.  I have some disagreements with one of these points, and agree with another.

First, sorry to break some bad news to those who always use the Sky Garden shortcut, but it is official a classified glitch and shortcut by my knowledge of these things.  Now, before you start saying 'm no expert, here's the logic:

A shortcut is an unintentional and exploitable glitch in a Mario Kart game.  Now, the non-PRB supporters say that this is no shortcut, and the PRB supporters say it is.  However, my viewpoint is that it is one, by the following logic.  The shortcut is proven to skip exactly one checkpoint in a level.  This is the same distance some other shortcuts like some of the Rainbow Road shortcuts skip.  Quite obviously, it's a glitch, as Nintendo didn't program the Staff Ghost to use this, guides to say it (official sources don't mention this) and their is no obvious ramp or a nearby sign suggesting it was intended.  Therefore it is a glitch we are using just as the PRB fans say.

On the other hand, their logic that if that site didn't ban it then PRB should be allowed is also broken.  This is because, people have been using this trick since very shortly after the game was released.  It is in guides and FAQs online, mentioned in forums.  Banning it was not a feasible option as it would alienate many possible players who had used it and been told their time is invalid.

Back to PRB though, there are other often used arguments.  Two of them I also support.  One is that it is natural to use the technique until you would stop it knowing it didn't exist, i.e. for laps or 3 lap times.  This logic could be considered true, as I personally, before it was even discovered, used to cut corners and try different strategies to test out times.

The opponents

There is also a flip side of the coin, and this counts for the opponents of the technique, the PRB opponents who do not want this technique allowed, no matter what.  After analysis of their views and some thinking, what I have found is that there are three or four main points thrown into every PRB banning argument.  They are:

1- It isn't natural to Prolong the rocket boost so you can cut corners!  True, to an extent.  But it is true that it's natural to keep the boost going as long as possible, right?  That forms the entire concept of using SSMTs, 'snaking' as it is called.  You couldn't imagine someone being told to not mini-turbo just because to someone else it is unnatural!  And obviously, me knowing this by now, it is perfectly usual to try and cut corners in racing games. This is based on common sense logic that the fastest route between points is a straight line, and that cutting corners tighter is faster than going wide.  Diagram please:

As you can see, the top diagram shows a normal line around the bend.  Most common sense would indicate this to be slower than cutting the corner.

However, below, saying PRB or extensive mini-turbos are used, the line cuts across the corner.  This should be faster.

Now, the proof to this:

The two lines have been put side by side.  The corner cutting line is slightly shorter than the non-corner cutting line making it seem the most natural route.

Take this to a Mario Kart course.  Cutting the first three bends and the end of Mario Circuit 1 is perfectly natural, and is just the same logic.  It is only elitism stopping some people from accepting it.

2- PRB is a glitch!  You should be allowed to use it!

This is also quite wrong.  While it sounds like a glitch and first, and may be to some people, to most it's just a technique.  Were mini-turbos designed for use on straight ways in a snake like alternating pattern?  Don't know and possibly not.  But it's fair because it is just using skill to improve your times, and it seems natural to improve your times by using more power-slides to get more boosts.  Limiting that is just limiting your potential time.  I think it is the same with PRB.  I also think it may not be a glitch as such.  And I have some evidence to back this up:

A glitch is something unintended.  This is a neat definition until something minor occurs to causes such a hassle.  Lets have a look at some definite glitches, from other games that I have found or used:

Dark Room of Death

You slide through a corner wall in the last room before Bowser and appear in an invisible room.  You can't escape and must quit or turn off the power.  A photo of this:

That is a real glitch.

Now, PRB on the other hand doesn't do something like go through a wall, or allow you to fly.  In fact, it's only a minor glitch, if not just a trick.  Besides, the way they made 'snaking' easier is actually the cause of PRB, and no one seriously knows whether the removal of having to space mini-turbos was intended.

Extra Notes on spacing of mini-turbos:

If this is a glitch, then you could technically say SSMTs constantly for snaking is.  Therefore that argument should, to avoid major changes, be considered void.

3- It isn't natural to exploit zippers in such a way!

This could be considered true if you play like the people who say this.  But for some people, it is natural.  Like if you can't mini-turbo there, then you will skim the zipper (various places) and if you find it is faster to mini-turbo constantly after the zipper, you will probably do just that.  It's human nature to try to be better than others, it's also natural to complain or blame an easy target if you get beaten.

4- Nintendo didn't say it was intended!  You lot are so cheap!  You go against how the game was meant to be played!  This is such a beginner argument.  Sure, they might not say it's intended, but that depends on who asks them in the first place. If a Prolonged rocket boosting fan said they used it and explained it, then they may be told it was meant to be used, but if an opponent said it was unfair, Nintendo may say it is!  This is because the company does want to make money, which it does by selling to customers, and therefore needs the fans to keep buying the games.  So it generally changes what may be true to please the fans or larger market who buy the game.  An example is this; since the majority of players who now mention 'snaking' think it's intended or fair, Nintendo now supports it.  I can almost bet that if many, many people wanted PRB, Nintendo would send out some article saying it's fair.  For proof intended means nothing, look at these true examples:

Example Does Nintendo say it's intentional?
Frappe Snowland lap skip in Mario Kart 64 Yes
Wario Stadium shortcuts Yes
'Snaking' Yes
Sky Garden uber shortcut Yes
Safari Zone and Missingno tricks in Pokemon games Yes

All the above are true.  For the Frappe Snowland and other Mario Kart 64 shortcuts, they were included in Nintendo Official Magazine and Nintendo Power, and the official strategy guide had all the shortcuts in.  For 'snaking' look at these three links:

NOA Andy snaking article

Official Snaking topic

Common Questions and Answers

For the uber shortcut, again, the snaking video uses it. And for the Pokemon glitches, I read them in the Nintendo Official Magazine UK strategy guide for that game.  They may not have once been intended, for Nintendo sure is eager to jump on the intended bandwagon quickly.

5- Holding a mini-turbo over a zipper to cut across off-road surfaces later on isn't natural!  Again, this depends on your actual strategy.  For as I was saying before, your strategy is natural to you, if you are the player who invented it and therefore holding your mini-turbo to cut over grass/sand later on would be fair.  It is also pretty fair for me when I have tested this in Luigi Circuit GCN.  I held the mini-turbo and released it when I landed, and then cut across the grass and it felt not really that much different from just repeatedly mini-turboing.

The Time Trial Site mods and half allowed rules team

Now, with what I call half implemented measures, there is another team.  Those who support the half allowing of PRB where Mario Kart 64.com staff say it's natural.  You can read the rules page here:

http://www.mariokart64.com/mkds/faq.php

Now, to cut a long story short, they want it only allowed in certain places, like the Choco Island intentional shortcut.  Now this may sound understandable, but I know a loophole in some of their ideas.  On the joining page and FAQ, they say it's a glitch, but some staff and supporters say it was intended there!  Wait, so it's a glitch, AND intended in some places.  Wrong.  Impossible.  That is impossible.  Either someone hasn't got a dictionary, or someone is lying and get tangled in a mess of arguments.

The other thing, is this.  When exactly is it natural to stop PRB?  You can't just do this:

This is because it's not natural either.  You can't just draw a line onto a map and say:

'Start spacing all mini-turbos past this line!'

That is unnatural.  I'm also going to say this:

You say a patch of sand or grass makes it clear boundary, but isn't that the corner you're supposed to cut in the first place?  You can't just make them slow down and lose like 2 seconds by going;

1...2...3....4

It's easier to cheat if PRB is allowed!

Not true one bit.  It is actually easier to cheat something if it isn't allowed than if it is.  Odd?  No.  It's happened many times in history and also undermines laws.  If people are not supposed to do it, they probably will and that gets them to do it rather than deters them.  In fact, it's more of a thrill breaking a rule and getting away with it.  A good example is prohibition:

When beer was allowed in the early USA, not many people broke the law to get it.  But when it was banned, everyone wanted it more and started trying to get it or make it themselves which worsened the situation.  Look, allowing people this technique could stop a flood of fake screenshots and edited videos, and people using it just past where they aren't meant to seeing if they get away with it.

There is also another answer to this, at that is to use a separate ranking for PRB and non-PRB times.  They say that by using an extended glitch ranking linked to the main page, that the problem will be solved.  Wrong.  This is because of a few things, which include the fact that the glitch ranking is for glitches.  There is no evidence anywhere that PRB is actually a glitch, and in fact, the only small bit of a slightly official evidence from the snaking thread on the Nsider forums, doesn't say anything about it being a glitch.  This has led me to believe it is an intended trick and strategy, otherwise it wouldn't be mentioned in that topic, or would have another topic made about it stating all about Prolonged Rocket Boosting.

Also, with Prolonged Rocket boosting allowed, there is an overlap between courses with Prolonged Rocket boosting being used and shortcuts, namely Sky Garden.  Now this is a tough argument to counter, as I presume the PRB times will be simply mixed in with the shortcut times.  But both are different, and require different styles of playing.  You can't, or it is fair tricky to, use a Lakitu shortcut and Prolonged Rocket boosting for example.

The other problem is usage.  If Prolonged Rocket boosting was glitch ranking only, there would be two possible major problems, which would be:

A- No one submits PRB times, or because they practice PRB, no times whatsoever (very extreme but possible)

B- Everyone submits PRB times, and the community is split in half

C- Everyone submits PRB times, and no one submits normal times which kills off the normal rankings and cause the Prolonged Rocket Boosting rankings to become the normal rankings.  I shall explain all three possibilities in greater depth in the next few paragraphs.

The first possibility is likely, as with how the Players Page is connected to the glitch rankings.  Currently, you have to go all the way into the forum, and search through about a dozen posts to find the page.  It's also tougher to find the glitch yahoogroup than the main group to submit normal times.  The possibility mentioned is in effect, and many players have actually admitted to not submitting times because of the current rules or going away to the Japanese site which allows the tactic.  This could easily cause the death of people submitting times for the game, like what happened with Mario Kart Super Circuit.  This in turn would actually mean those against it would have lost as the site doesn't contain any of the best records any more.

The second possibility is a split community.  This would occur with half the people playing by the current rules, and half using Prolonged Rocket Boosting.  This practically happened with the 'snaking' issue earlier on, and could happen again.  It could mean two sets of people, using two sets of strategies and maybe even using two different websites.  This is unwanted enough already, as it splits the community and ruins the players page.

Finally, there is the idea that PRB times may replace the normal times. This would happen if everyone suddenly accepted PRB AFTER the rules have been set, and would cause inactivity with the old charts and the new ones being seen as the real best times.  Then, technically, the winners of this argument (If the PRB haters won) would become the losers.

It's down to this

Okay, now I've identified the groups of people, the conclusion will say why I think it should be allowed.  The first thing I will say is this bit is personal opinion and there is no right or wrong answer.  The second thing I will say are the two possible and better suggestions for fair rules.  Okay, lets begin this:

Prb is a fair tactic in my opinion because I don't actually think it's a glitch.  Sorry if anyone disagrees, but I know enough about glitches in other games like Mario 64 DS and the like to comment on this, and while some may consider it an exploit, I don't consider it a glitch.

I think that allowing it is in public interest as it would stop rule breakers more than banning it would.

In all though, I think it's legal.  But I've actually came up with three big suggestions for clear and fair rules relating to this matter.  I agree with one but partially agree with logic in all of them.

1- It should be allowed to stop cheating, and you allow people to race in a natural racing line.

2- It should be totally banned and that the site should clamp down on the legal shortcuts as well.  Back to basics.

3- The legal shortcuts should be in, but PRB extended to cover the whole lap or 3 laps of courses where it is a natural and valid racing line.

The obvious poll:

To finish off the matter, some useful facts:

PRB is only faster on road

It can be started after a zipper (boost pad)

PRB- Prolonged Rocket boosting SSMTs- Doing mini-turbos on a straightway.

You say a patch of sand or grass makes it clear boundary, but isn't that the corner you're supposed to cut in the first place?  You can't just make them slow down and lose like 2 seconds by going;

Luigi's Mansion, Yet more Glitches!

A new discovery has been made by myself...

There is a major bug in the course!  Not the stairs glitch, but here you jump through a fence and over a wall!  Try it:

Have one mushroom

Go to the 'lip' of the grassy kerb.

Boost and jump at the wall

If you go high enough you will go straight over the wall and through the steel fence!  There is also another version where you go through a nearby tree, or maybe soon a near headstone in that way!

Do you know what this means?  Landing on the wall!  And best of all?  Invincibility glitch again!

I've also found that if you accelerate at boxes in Delfino Square, they look and act slightly weird..

New glitches found!

New Glitches!

I have just found two new shortcuts on Rainbow Road, and a new glitch on Mario Circuit!  I also watched a great glitch video showing a new glitch someone else (and now myself) has done on Donut Plains 1.  To prove this glitch works I have now also got a movie of it.

The new Rainbow Road shortcuts

New glitches have been found (don't flame me for finding new exploits to unbalance good players)!  I jumped off while trying to do Rainbow Road shortcut 2 (jump off and get put down just before the corkscrew) and I managed to get put down in two other helpful spots!

One of them was after the gap, which cut a decent corner and straight and the other was brilliant.  Just before the bend that shortcut 3 is at!  So in future, I could be seeing myself jumping off the side, getting put down just before that bend and jumping it with shortcut 3, all in one lap!

New glitch on Mario Circuit

On Mario Circuit, you can jump right through Princess Peach's Castle!  To do so, go to the first bend that is near the castle and have one mushroom.  Boost at it and jump.  If your aim was right, you'll go straight through the base of the wall!

Other new glitches

Since the last time I wrote, ages ago, I have found new glitches.  I have also found out that other people have found new tricks and glitches as well, including a way to exit the level on Waluigi Pinball, and the explanation to the mysterious freezing glitch found on Luigi's Mansion.  That horrifies me that even messing up on Time Trial for a noob could cause them to discover a trick to ruin online play forever.  However, here are some new things found recently:

Over the fence:

In DK Pass, you can fly over another fence later on, where there is a single tree enclosed by a fence.  This requires three mushrooms and a well timed jump.

Over the fence 2

Earlier on in DK Pass, there is an area where you go round a red fence to an area with a snowball.  Go forward, and turn around.  Now, aim for where the fence slopes downwards and boost.  Jump as you go off the nearby minor slope.  You will fly over the fence and land on an earlier part of the track.  This could be a mission mode shortcut.

Strange trick in Shroom Ridge

At the start, there is a block with a post holding up the start banner.  You can drive on the block, and even around the post to the area where you are practically hanging off the cliff.  This is only possible in karts like the Dry Bomber.  You may be invincible.

Ride other walls in Bowser Castle 2

Where there is a jump, go towards it at an angle.  You will repeatedly jump.  Slower move towards the end while facing the wall.  You can ride it or jump the wall with ease.  This may lead to shortcuts in future, or it may not.

Lakitu tricks

You can also do these in Sky Garden near the intentional shortcut and in Bowser Castle near the end where the track turns.  These two are only for show.

Non-existant support beam

(or why Banshee Boardwalk should collapse and sink)

At the area with the drop, fall down and turn around.  You will see a support beam holding up the pier.  Boost and jump at this beam to go through it!  What is holding up the actual level?

Non-existant fence

You can also drop through the fence in Banshee Boardwalk in the same way.

Possible trick, fall through DK Pass?

It might be possible to fall through the level if you try to land exactly on the fence, as it isn't solid.  At one angle, you can land and see through the level into the darkness before you are put back on the track!

Battle Mode tip

While this isn't a glitch, you can actually wait in the pipe in Pipe Plaza.  This may help, as you are likely to be ignored by computer opponents and human foes!

Rumour- There may be a glitch shortcut on Wario Stadium

New shortcut for showing off:

In Tick Tock Clock, there is an area with a pendulum.  If you boost and jump at the straight path nearby, you will be placed on the straight path!  I do this to annoy opponents in multiplayer mode! This bit is actually true, as my poor opponents should know by now!

P.S. About the glitches mentioned:

They are minor glitches and may or may not ever actually help you.  Jumping fences in DK Pass is helful in exactly one mission.

Shortcuts and a video

I am officially sick of people who still don't understand the shortcuts, how can anyone not know about them with pages of articles and numerous photographs in my photo album showing where to jump and what happens?  And the hundreds of posts of nearly every forum and message board for fifty miles has a least one topic about it.

So soon, I will ,create a video showing the shortcuts on these courses:

Rainbow Road shortcut 1

Legal Sky Garden shortcut

Lakitu Sky Garden shortcut

All Tick Tock Clock shortcuts

All Frappe Snowland shortcuts

and some various other glitches not going through a bullet bill and minor Lakitu tricks.
